Finland to Merge Fintoto, RAY and Veikkaus

Finland’s Yle Uutiset reported on Sunday the 4th of October that the three betting companies that holds monopoly in Finland, Fintoto, RAY and Veikkaus will merge into one company. This merge is said to start within the next few weeks and is expected to be completed some time during the first half of 2017.

This merge will mean that “only a third of the current top brass in all three concerns would be guaranteed a job in the resulting business“. This has led to speculations on who will lead the new company. Funnily enough, a few private betting operators have already published odds on people that are likely to head the new Finnish monopolised mega company.

Yle Uutiset adds: “The official release says that the three betting companies are being merged in order to strengthen the Finnish betting monopoly. The EU backs a monopoly, citing an anti-gambling problem agenda“.
